Back in November of 2011 the Associated press interviewed Norman Reedus about the perils of being a character on a zombie TV show. In that discussion Norman expressed how his character, Daryl Dixon, doesn’t need his survival partners. . . or at least doesn’t know he needs them yet. Norman then talked about how he attempts to play Daryl like a “wet cat in an alley.” It has to be hard to carefully balance his tough exterior with a bit of vulnerability and softness that isn’t necessarily eager to jump out. Although this was a short interview at just around 2 minutes, it provides a lot of insight on Norman’s thoughts on the series back toward the beginning.
We really like how Norman discusses Daryl’s struggle to accept love, acceptance and a feeling of worth in adult relationships, certainly things he lacked in his relationship with his father and his older brother Merle.
